Web scraping workflow
How to use Meltano in a web scraping pipeline
Meltano coordinates extraction and loading primarily through Singer taps and targets. It can move already collected records from a supported source into the destination used for analysis.
A practical workflow
- A separate scraper writes its output to a database, API or files compatible with the selected tap.
- Configure the tap and target, choose streams and run the integration with the relevant state and schema settings.
- Inspect the load outcome, then let a separate transformation stage build cleaned tables from the imported data.
When it fits
Use it when a scraping application's outputs need a repeatable connector-based path into another platform. Verify each plugin's behavior rather than assuming all sources offer the same incremental or deletion semantics.
Boundaries
Meltano's integration framework does not itself supply a browser or site-specific extraction rules. A custom website may require a separate scraper or a deliberately implemented tap. Keep credentials, run state and destination write policy controlled, and retain provenance so downstream users can identify which collection produced each record.
