Caching databases trade features for latency and operational fit. Redis is the default starting point for queues, counters, locks, and cache keys, Memcached fits simple ephemeral caching, and KeyDB fits teams evaluating a multithreaded Redis-compatible fork.
Database caching reuses a stored copy of frequently requested data or query results, reducing repeated reads from the backing database. Decide how cached entries expire or are updated when source data changes. A cache’s durability and recovery behavior depend on its configuration; do not assume it replaces the primary database.
